At least one in seven children experienced child abuse or neglect in the past year in the United States according to CDC. There are four common types of abuse and neglect: physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse and neglect. Students in grades K-5th will go through a safety program this month called Child Lures to learn and be made aware of inappropriate behaviors, what to do if they or someone they know is being abused and what makes healthy relationships.

The month of May is Mental Health Awareness Month. According to the National Alliance of Mental Illnesses, more than 1 in 7 U.S. youth ages 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year. This month students will learn about mental health and learn proper coping skills, and ways they can prioritize their mental health.
