Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr., was an American activist who became the most visible spokesperson and leader in the Civil Rights Movement. He is best known for advancing civil rights through nonviolence and civil disobedience. MLK participated and led marches for blacks' right to vote, desegregation, and labor rights. King also led the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott. He is also known for his "I Have A Dream" speech that was delivered during the March on Washington for jobs and freedom on August 28, 1963.

Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks helped initiate the Civil Rights Movement when she refused to give up her bus seat to a white man in Montgomery, Alabama in 1955. Her actions led to leaders of the local black community to organize the Montgomery Bus Boycott. This boycott was led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This boycott lasted more than a year. Rosa Parks has become one of the most recognized women in history for her dignity and strength during the struggle to end racial segregation.
